A mere sampling of the most beloved funky tunes of my youth (funk, classical & new wave/electronic being my big three).
This music knows how to JAM. Feel free to add your own funky favorites!
Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me / Peter Brown - Yes, I had the 45 single of this...where is it now?
Get Off / Foxy (1978) - The bridge is goofy but I'm OK with everything else. Nice subtle song.
Dazz / Brick (1976) - Not to be confused with the Dazz Band.
Let It Whip / The Dazz Band - for clarification.
You Dropped A Bomb On Me / The Gap Band (1982) - Sparkly camo costumes.
Give Up The Funk / Parliament - The Ave Maria of funk.
Atomic Dog / George Clinton
Flash Light / Parliament - Go on, I dare you to not mentally holler "FLASH LIGHT!"
Got To Be Real / Cheryl Lynn - more R and B than funk but I liked it anyway.
Brick House / The Commodores
Boogie Nights / Heatwave (1976) - I had Heatwave's Greatest Hits and played it nonstop.
That's The Way I Like It / KC and the Sunshine Band - not funk but that's the way I like it, and it's my list, so too bad. I had this album too.
Play That Funky Music White Boy / Wild Cherry (1976) - fantastic horns and a great slow groove.
Fire / Ohio Players - the off-kilter syncopation and spareness of this cut are just amazing.
