20120203: random goodness

...friday is as good an excuse as any for sharing a few bits of compulsively gathered dross.
i can't help it:  i have to amuse myself or life's not worth living.
a happy friday to you!
random goodness
christmas slippers with actual 3-dimensional teeny mittens attached.  oh, how I love these guys.

the lit'l shakee will shake the bejesus out of your tree.  its shaking mechanism's planetary gear mesmerizes utterly, taunting you to put your foot or other body part in there, but please don't.

trippy christmas tree, thanks to my crappy new phone camera.

Christmas cookies - so fun to make...

...especially when they look a little unhinged, accidentally on purpose.
candles? soap? candy?  lumps of edible something-or-other in the candy section at Mayfair Market (Pulaski S of Lawrence).  looks like you're supposed to slice or gnaw a bit off the flavor you want.  ?

finds from mayfair market:  sweet lime; cilantro cubes; tiky guatemalan pineapple soda; peach yogurt aloe vera smoothie that was actually quite tasty.

from the good old village discount on elston:  munsingwear 100% ringspun cotton french blue shirt with, um, a Barilla logo.  it was free so it followed me home.  no idea what will become of it.
lightweight pullover sweater featuring a delicately printed scene from...c.s. lewis's voyage of the dawn treader? some intrepid hipster is probably sporting this about town as we speak.

shells, wire, pompoms and a clown head, and you have something that's way more than $2.90 worth of scary.
black subaru.  loves Snape.  pretty much says it all.
real men don't need footwear to get the morning paper.

These are great, especially the Christmas cookies ones. My kids regularly decorate the snow and gingerbread cut-outs as: The Hulk, Spider-Man, Favorite teachers, Band logos (Weezer), etc. I guess we're just not very traditional that way :)

I can't get enough resolution on the Voyage of the Dawn Treader sweater to tell if that's what it is. The ship looks more like a Viking ship because of the sail. No matter, I enjoy peeking into your world of frugality. We have our bouts of it, but the shops that we have to frequent are much less funky (cool) than the ones that you depict.

viking it is! the dawn treader isn't a warship, as we all know: http://www.narniaweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/08-The-Dawn-Treader-in-the-Marina-5.jpg.

I suspect the lit'l shakee is for getting fruit out of the tree with no regard for bruising but every regard for quick. My question is, why a Christmas tree on the logo? Pine nuts?

so...the Lit'l Shakee, made right here in IL, is for shaking all the loose needles out of your tree after you tie it to your car and take it home. Gets the job done, believe me. Can't imagine the job it'd do on a fruit tree :D Spoken like a Floridian.

Did you get the scary clown? I don't think I would have brought him home. My mom has a thing for scary clowns. I don't want to inherit them when she is gone!

No worries, Ellen, the clown stayed at the Village where he belongs. It was frightening enough just taking his picture! But there is a market for them - we have two clown-loving neighbors, and to them, it's no laughing matter.

If you would venture south you would know that oranges don't come off with a little shaking until they are way past their prime (and maybe not even then.) They have to be pulled off and eaten in their prime ;)

I have to admit that's a beautiful boat. From the book it seems as if it's probably about the right size too (as in, not that big.)

i know. i always wanted to be on board the Dawn Treader, wearing Prince Caspian's clothes like Lucy did. Hmm.
