Tech: Meet Majel, Google's Digital Assistant - Named After The "First Lady of Star Trek" (but Uhura Still Rules!)

Google is doing something so deeply nerdy, goofy, and endearing that my heart grew three sizes just now.  According to the Daily Mail, their new digital personal assistant, to rival Apple's Siri, will be named Majel, after Gene Roddenberry's partner and wife, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.  Not only did Majel play the voice of the onboard computer systems in ALL the series, she also played the role of Nurse Chapel, who had a thing for Spock.  Don't we all.

For those with the time and inclination, here's an intriguing-looking link to Majel's work as the "First Lady of Star Trek" (though Uhura is still number one in my book.)

But the math confuses me.  Why do some weird decisions thrill me, and others just seem peculiar?  Example:

Google naming their DPA "Majel" = interesting-endearing
vs.
Nicolas Cage naming his son Kal-El after Superman's original name = interesting-peculiar (but brave?)
vs.
Lady Gaga posing nude for (and with) Tony Bennett in Vanity Fair = interesting-embarrassing (for Tony)
